Abstract Parasitic diseases are generally characterized by a long term persistance of the parasite in the host. One pathogenic mechanism likely to be involved in some parasitic diseases is the formation of immune complexes by the reaction of antibodies with antigens released from living or dying parasites. The formation of circulating immune complexes is an immunological feature which was demonstrated in many diseases of man. The present thesis was designed for the detection of circulating immune complexes in serum, ascitic fluid and liver tissues of Sch- - istosoma mansoni infected patients in relation to the clinical stages of the disease and studying their role in the pathogenesis of the disease. |
