Abstract

Schistosomiasis is one of the most commonly recognized health priorities in international medicine.Chronic human infection with Schistosoma mansoni trematodes is associated with impaired cell-mediated immunity. Granuloma formation and its modulation represent a delicate balance between T-lymphocyte subsets Thelper cells and T-suppressors.Hepatic fibrosis complicates the chronic granulomatous inflammatory reaction to Schistosoma mansoni eggs, and is the major cause of morbidity and mortality in human schistosomiasis.Pathogenesis of chronic hepatitis B is mediated by cellular immune response and characterized by lymphocyte infiltration of the liver. Both schistosomiasis and hepatits B virus infections have high prevalence in Egypt and both infection occurs in the same individual.
