Abstract It is well ltnown that the commonest cause of right ventricular failure is left ventricular failure. Less well known is the concept that right ventricular dysfunction alters left ventricular function in subtle ways. A nuinber of recent studies have documented left ventricular well as right ventricular dysfunction in patients with lesions assumed to spare the left ventricle, as generalized obstructive airway disease, mitral stenosis and primary pulmonary hypertension. |
