Abstract
The development of ascites in the course of liver disease marks an important turning point in the quaiity and length of life. Patients with ascites feel uncomfortable , have impaired mobility and are at risk of spontaneous bacterial peritonitis. Treatment of ascites is therefore of crucial importance for the well-being of the patient. Treatment of ascites depends mainly on rest , salt restriction , diuretics and paracentesis. Many researchers stated that total rapid paracentesis when associated with increasing intravascular volume and colloidal osmotic pressure is more effective than simple paracentesis,The present work was conducted to study the efficacy of total rapid paracentesis with dextran-70 infusion in refractory ascites in schistosomal hepatic fibrosis patients ,using cardiac performance,clinical data and some personal parameters for follow up.
