Abstract

The work provides a comprehensive study of the kinetics of H20? decomposition in the presence of cation-, anion-, and mixedexchange resins supported with metal-chromate and phosphate. These resins are considered as potentially active catalysts. The reaction was carried out in an aqueous medium and was followed by determining the amount of undecomposed HzOz iodometrically. The current work aimed at the utilization of the ion-exchange resin as a catalyst support material in the study of the kinetics of H@2 decomposition. The thesis consists of three main chapters, introduction, experimental, results and discussion. The first chapter shows a literature survey on the homogeneous and heterogeneous decomposition of H,-O ,-. The second chapter describes the materials, experimental method and techniques used in conducting the current work. It describes also the methods of analysis of the potentially active supported resin catalysts. The third chapter displays the results and its discussion. It was found that the rate of the decomposition reaction of H,-O ,- depends upon the activity of the resin-supported catalyst. The concerned supported resins have different degrees of stability. The greater the stability, the greater would be the reaction rate constant. The electrostatic attraction between the opposite charges in the resin plays a great role in the stability of the resin. This is more pronounced in the case of the mixed resins.
