Abstract The present study provides a detailed description on ecology of weeds and invasive plants of some newly reclaimed areas in Egypt. Also shed light on the economic importance of some of these plants by examining the chemical composition of them as well as examine some of the biological activities such as allelopathy, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. It aims at the following objectives: 1) Study the floristic features including: record of weeds and invasive plant species, distribution pattern, life-span, life-form spectra and floristic categories of the weeds and invasive plant species in the study area to detect the taxonomic and phytogeographical significance of its floristic components. 2) Determination of weed communities associated with the crops cultivated in some newly reclaimed areas of Egypt in terms of spatial variations in abundance using multivariate analysis (classification and ordination). 3) Determination of the weeds and invasive species diversity of some newly reclaimed areas in Egypt. 4) Analysis of variations in environmental factors (edaphic) to determine the soil factors controlling the abundance and distribution of the recognized weed communities in the study area. 5) Evaluation of the economic potentialities of some selected plant species by studying: i) The proximate composition to evaluate their nutritional status. ii) The active constituents. iii) Determination of some biological activities of some selected plant species by studying: (a) The Antioxidant activities. (b) The antimicrobial activities. (c) The allelopathic effects on the nuisance weed Cenchrus biflorus as a tool of weed management (biological control). |
