Abstract
The ageing characteristics of Al-5 wt % Mg and A-10 wt % Mg alloys have been studied using a microhardness tester. These alloys were found to belong to the non-heat treatable alloy systems. This was attributed to the difficulty for the nucleation and growth of the precipitate because of their complex structures. The hardness of the alloy increased as the magnesium content was increased.
