Abstract In an attempt to study the most economical level of feed for fattening steers, Ninety male beef calves averaging 212 Kg of body weight and 15 months of age were employed. They were divided into three similar groups of 30 animals each and were fed either one of three nutritional levels, namely Medium (Tr. 1) or high (Tr.2) or Low (Tr. 3), using group feeding. The three allowances were similar in their cp% end RIC, but differed in the levels of intake. Change in body weight was recorded ever y 15 days throughout a 300 - day experimental period . Feed intakes, nutrient digestibilities , feed efficiencies, economical efficiencies , body measurements, slaugnter tests and chemical analysis of Longissmus dorsi muscle were also studied . The following results and conclusions were obtained :- 1- the calculated analysis of the concentrate feed mixture: part used I. feed mixture (2 part straw) from the analysis of seperate feeds, was the same as the results obtained from the analysis of composite sample from the two feeds • 2- the chemic composition of the three rations was almost constant . Difference was only the adjusted for each trial by a guide of weight of each group • feed level which was the average live body weight of each group. |
