Abstract
Lettuce (Lactuca Sativa.L.) is one of the most popular leafy vegetables In A.R.E. It Is known as ”Green Gold” in california . Nutrition value is considered one of the vegetabIes which Is rarely to 1095 its value of Dutrition in consumption as it is consumed In most of cases as being fresh. through its use in cooking has became a new matter in Europe and America. Lettuce is rich in its containing of vitamin A. some other vitamins as Bl. B2 and Vit.C. It 15 also considered a source for elements calcium and iron . It is always found far from a salad. There are found areas In America aDd Europe some of it are grown to produce oil from its seeds which known as oil lettuce. The most importance group. 1- Butter varieties. 2- crisp varieties. 3- Cos or romain varieties varieties. In Egypt. the area planted with lettuce was 14013faddans in 1987 which produced 131582 tons, with an average • of 9.39 tons/faddan.
