Abstract This investigation was designed to study nature of stem rust resistance and the factors affecting the nature of susceptibility and resistance in some local wheat varieties. All the studies in the field, greenhouse and laboratory were conducted at Bahtim Experiment Station. Results are summarized as follows :- 1. The number of leaf hairs on both the upper and lower surfaces did not correspond to the degree of resistance and susceptibility in the tested Varieties. These hairs were found on the susceptible varieties Tosson, G. 13 5 more than on the resistent variety Mexipack. 2. The number of stomata did not indicate the degree of resistance and susceptibility in the tested varieties. The average number of stomata for the resistant variety i’.1exipack was higher than in the susceptible variety Tosson. On the other hand, the average number of stomata for both susceptible variety Hindi 62 and t he resistant variety hindi maerad was very close. 3- The sclerenchyma area in mm2 was higher in the resistant varieties Mexipaok and hindi Maerad , Than in the susceptible varieties Tossan end Hindi D. The area of collencbyma in resistent varieties differed than those in susceptible ones. |
