Abstract Medicinal plants are of major importance in human life. They are usually used as a source of active substances which have pharmacological action and used in medicine industry. The medicinal plants under investigation included licorice roots, saponaria roots and fenugreek seeds. Chemical constituents of different samples were studied for their contents of crude protein, crude fat, reducing sugars, phytic acid, minerals, total amino acids, fatty acids ( GLC) and vitamins ( thiamine and riboflavin ). The active substances of different medicinal samples were evaluated on bases of their chemical composition. Chemical analysis for licorice roots, saponaria roots and fenugreek seeds samples revealed that their contents were as the following : 6.44, 7.93 and 26.48% for crude protein : 1.62, 0.59 and 7.175 for crude fat : 42.64, 36.47 and 2.37% for crude fiber : 7.39, 3.55 and 1.7% for total soluble sugars : 24. 0.00, 45.5 mg. / 100 gm. For phytic acid, respectively. Some important minerals were also determined for different samples. Their values were 57.0, 12.5 and 200 for inorganic phosphorus : 620 and 144 for calcium , 25.5, 15.2 and 15.5 for manganese : 11.0, 11.0 and 7.5 for copper : 98.9, 73.8 and 31.1 for iron : 35.0, 62.3 and 26.0 for zinc : 120, 63.5 and 67.0 for sodium : 980, 1025 and 1240 for potassium and 79.9, 46.6 and 24.1 mg. / 100 gm. Sample for magnesium contents of licorice roots, saponaria roots and fenugreek seeds, respectively. |
