Abstract

The main aim of this study was to improve EFL primary stage students’ listening skills through a Training Program based on storytelling activities . The researcher noticed that there is weaknesses in the fifth year primary students in listening comprehension. The study investigated the effectiveness of storytelling technique in developing the EFL listening comprehension skills of the primary stage students. A training program based on storytelling activities was constructed . The proposed Learning Training Program was administered to a sample of students at Manyet Mahal_ElDamana primary School during the first semester in the academic year 2009/2010 . Two instrumentations were designed by the researcher. The first is a listening comprehension skills questionnaire was constructed to determine the most appropriate skills of the primary stage students. The second is a pre-post listening comprehension skills was demonstrated before and after the experimental treatment. It aimed to assess the students’ improvement in listening comprehension. The training program was administered to the experimental group . The results of the study indicated that ;There is a statistically significant difference at 0.001 levels between the mean scores of the experimental group on the pre-and post- test of listening comprehension in favor of the post- test. The program based on storytelling activities was administered to the experimental group. The results indicated that (1) There were statistically significant differences between the mean scores of the experimental group students on the pre and the post applications of the listening skills test in favor of the post one.(2) There was a significant improvement in students listening skill component dimensions.
