Abstract

The aim of this work was to synthesize some new polyfunctionally substituted derivatives of pyridine and pyrimidine of expected biological activity. This goal was achieved using relatively available chemicals and simple techniques. The suggested structures of the new derivatives {2-amino-3-cyanopyridine derivatives 375a-c, 1,4-dihyDROPuridine 380a-v, 1,1-(1,4-phenylene)bis(1,4-dihyDROPyridine) 383a-c, sulphonamido derivatives 394a-c, (3-pyrrolino)[3,4-b](1,4-dihyDROPyridie) derivatives 395a,b and tetrahyDROPyrimidine derivatives (327a-c, 397a-c and 398)} were confirmed through elemental and spectral (IR, H1-NMR, C13-NMR and MS) analyses. The same new derivative was sometimes obtained through two independent synthetic routes. This technique represented further approval of the suggested structures. Reaction mechanism(s) were suggested, explaining the may of building the new derivatives. The ideas and techniques applied throughout this work were always supported by referring to recent literature references. The three new sulphanilamido derivatives 394a-c underwent preliminary biological test against certain bacteria (Escherchia coli and Bacillus cereus) and exerted non-to-small activity.
