Abstract

A brief description of the overall work in this thesis is summarized as follows:
• Chapter one includes introduction consisting of a literature survey on the importance of hydrazone compounds. The review also includes a brief literature survey on some publications concerning the complexation of hydrazones related to the studied compounds.
• Chapter two covers the experimental part and illustrates the experiments used in this work.
• Chapter three deals with the results and discussion; the most important data are summarized in five parts including the following information:
• Part one includes the obtained data of H4L1 and its complexes
It contains the following remarks:
1- The studied solvents (polar or nonpolar) have a great effect on the absorption spectra of the ligands. The strength of the hydrogen bonding is evaluated.
2- The proposed chemical formulae of the ligands and their metal complexes are in good agreement with the stoichiometries concluded from their analytical data of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and metal contents.
3- The coordination sites of the ligands, the metal-ligand bonds, the nature of the acetate and the existence of the solvent molecules were elucidated using IR spectra.
• Part two includes the data obtained for H2L2 and its complexes

• Part three includes the thermal analysis
The thermal decompositions of all complexes were carried out; most of the end products in the last step are metal oxide. The coordinated and hydrated waters were distinguished.
• Part four includes the pH- metric studies
The pH- metric titrations in aqueous-ethanol solution on the investigated ligands and their metal complexes were estimated. The data includes the ionization constants of the ligands (log K1, log K2 and log K3). The obtained data in the table show clearly the different ratios formed in the different systems.
