Abstract

The aim of the work is to evaluate health-related quality of life (HRQL) in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and examine the correlation between rheumatoid arthritis and the severity of the disease, and their impact on the well being of these patients with this chronic illness. In 1947, the World Health Organization (WHO), expanded the definition of health to include not only the absence of disease but also a complete state of physical, mental, and social well- being. In the subsequent four decades, clinicians and health care researchers have become increasingly aware of the limitations of the traditional ”biomedical model” of health to address all these aspects of health, and of the need for integration of this model of issues that arise from the social sciences. In the future, the practice of medicine should all include the traditional clinical measures in addition to QOL, and economic outcomes. This integrated approach to health will provide us with a more comprehensive and complete approach to patients and to the delivery of their care . Rheumatoid arthritis is a potentially disabling disease and has adverse effects on physical, mental and social well being of affected individuals .The morbidity and mortality it causes are a consequence of local and systemic inflammatory processes that damage cartilage, bone and soft tissue, as well as blood vessels and viscera..
