Abstract The increasing prevalence of diabetes mellitus the emergence of diabetes complication as a cause of early morbidity and mortality and the enormous and mounting burden on health care systems make diabetes a priority health concern the aim of this was to assess factors affecting compliance of diabetic patients toward therapeutic management and provide a guidance sheet containing information about diabetes definition causes manifestation types complications prevention and management the study was carried out in patient words and outpatient clinics of diabetes at Mansoura Specialized Medical Hospita Sample included 80 patients with type diabetes mellitus both sexes the investigator used an interviewing questionnaire sheet including personal data of the patient medical and family history patient’s knowledge about diabetes and factors affecting their compliance to treatment regimens the study results revealed that most of diabetes patients had poor knowledge scores about the diseases and its treatment regimen Despite of their poor knowledge more than one third of them had good compliance scores a highly significant statistical positive correlation was found between knowledge and compliance of the study sample It can be concluded from the study that patients compliance is influenced by their knowledge the study recommended the application of guiding educational and cultural programs for patients with diabetes to improve their compliance Emphasize the importance of more perspective studies to shed light on the factors that affect on compliance of diabetic patients and hinder their glycaemic control and how to overcome these factors to ensure their quality of life. |
