Abstract AIM OF THE WORK: Since the first article, of Neuberg, on hydrotropy in Igl6i the research in this area has been mainly concerned with: 1. physico-chemical studies of hydrotropic salt solutions and hydrotropic systems to formulate an acceptable theory for the explanation, of the phenomenon of hydrotropy. 2. The use of hydrotropic salts in various pharmaceutical and industrial applications. The pharmaceutical applications include solubilization of water insoluble drugs, stabilization of unstable drugs, specially light sensitive ones and enhancing the absorp-tion of drugs. On the other hand, the use of hydrotropes in paper manufacture represents the most important industrial application. The literature survey indicated that most of the work has been concerned with the physicochemical proper¬ties of hydrotropes, the mechanism of hydrotropy as well as the use of hydrotropes as solubilizing agents. |
