Abstract The objective of this investigation is to reach the optimum conditions of : Studying some factors affecting growth of S. sclerotiorum and attempts for control the fungus by environmental friendly techniques. Results can be summarized as following: 1. Bean (Phaseolus vulgaris, L.) is one of the most important vegetable crops in Egypt and in many countries of the world. 2. On of the major limitation in bean production and export in Egypt is the infestation by S. sclerotiorum which causes losses in the total yield and decreases the quality of the exportable yield. 3. PDA was the best solid medium for growth the fungus, while PD Broth was the best liquid medium for vegetative growth. 4. In case of pH, it found that, the best growth of the fungus occurred at pH 5.5. When, All number of light hours were appropriating good growth of S. sclerotiorum. 5. However, the best growth of the fungus occurred at 100% (RH). 6. D-glucose was the best carbon source, whereas, L-alanin was the best N source for mycelial dry weight of S. sclerotiorum. 7. T. hamatum and C. minitans were the best antagonistic fungi in reducing the mycelial growth of S. sclerotiorum. In case of antagonistic bacteria, it was found that P. fluorescens was the most effective on radial growth of S. sclerotiorum. 8. However, it was observed that cinnamon, mint and clove oil were the most effective against S. sclerotiorum. 9. The maximum inhibition of the fungal growth of S. sclerotiorum was obtained by iron (Fe). 10. The variety Duel was the lowest cultivar for sensitivity to S. sclerotiorum giving 46.00% living plants. |
