Abstract

This study aimed to compare the phenytoin and magnesium sulphate
in management of severe pre-eclampsia and eclampsia as regards their
anticonvulsant effects, and maternal and fetal side effects.
This study has been carried out in Zagazig University Hospitals, where fourty patients with severe pre-eclampsia with comparable age and
gestational age. There were no statistically significant differences
between the two groups regarding blood pressure, degree of proteinuria,
platelet count and serum albumin chosen and then randomly divided into
two groups:
Group (A): Magnesium sulphate group:
It includes twenty patients treated by magnesium sulphate; all were
primigravidae, their ages ranged from 18-35 years and the gestational age
ranged from 34-40 weeks.
Group (B): Phenytoin group:
It includes twenty patients treated by phenytoin sodium, their ages
ranged from 17-38 years and gestational ages ranged from 34-40 weeks
