Abstract Considering the several theories and suggestions enlightened the mechanism of action of a manifold number of hydrazine compounds, certain derivatives of them showed antimicrobial activity and in particular antitubercular or antiamaebic potency. Isoniazid, p-aminosalicylic acid hydr-azide, 2-furoyl hydrazine, 2-thenoyl hydrazine, and certain B-pyrone and b-pyridone carboxylic acid hydrazides are the most promising antitubercular hydrazine derivatives; while p-hydroxybenzoicacld-(5-nitrofurfurylidene)hydrazide,1,1-(phenylenedimethylene)dihydrazine and certain quinoline carboxylic acid hydrazides showed antiamaebic activity. On this basis the b’-pyridone ring was adopted to obtain new series of arylidene or acyl derivatives of l-(p~hydrox-yphenyDchelidamic acid dihydrazide. |
