Abstract
Certain benzylidene,substituted benzylidene and cinnamylideneamino compounds were prepared in 1969 and proved to possess both antimalarial and antibacterial activities.pointing out this fact,the synthesis of a new series of schiff’s bases was inspired using the already active 4-amino-∞-piperidino,merpholino,or piperazino-o-cresols,as parent compounds.certain∞-dialkylamino-o-cresols were recognised as good antimalarials.when the active moiety of such molecules i.e. the 3-dialkylaminomethyl-4-hydroxyaniline residue was attached to 7-chloroquinoline or chloromethoxyacridine gave amodiaquine and quinacrine analogue respectively which proved to be potent antimalarials.
