Abstract

Aim of the work: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Trichloroacetic acid versus salicylic acid peels at gradually increased concentrations in the treatment of melasma Planning of the work: 25 female patients complaining of melasma were included in this study. Wood’s lamp examination, informed consent, color photographs before and after treatment, pre-peel regimen for 2 weeks before peel . Local application of both peeling agents using TCA versus salicylic acid in the same patient in a half face model at a gradually increased concentrations for maximum 6 sessions at 1-2 weeks interval. Results and Recommendations: Both peeling agents were effective with no significant difference, but TCA had an earlier onset of improvement than salicylic acid, while salicylic acid was more safe.
