Abstract

Speech and language development is a useful indicator of a child’s overall development and cognitive ability and is related to school success.
Objects: To identify the problem of speech and language disorders, and put a. strategy of early detection and management
Methods and Results: Speech and language are core skills in the development of young children. They are markers of cognitive and social development, and also indicate certain features of motor development. Pediatricians routinely evaluate speech and language in well-child visits during the toddler and preschool years. Conclusion: Delays in speech and language development in children should be detected as early as possible to ensure optimal treatment and to prevent psychiatric problems later in life. There are no universal guidelines on what type of intervention should be offered to children with speech and language delay. Neither is there consistent evidence upon which to base the decision of how or when to treat such children.
