Abstract

The present work deals with the study of the adaptive characters of the digestive system and the skeletal system of the insectivore mammal , Hemiechinus auritus aegypticus and the carnivore mammalian species , Mustela nivalis subpalmata .
it can be concluded that some adaptations could obviously detected :- a-The protrusion of rostrum in the skull of H. auritus is an adaptation to the digging habitat in searching for insects .
b-The absence of incisors and the large fan-shaped coronoid bone in H. auritus can help in eating insects with hard carapace .
c-The long intestine and the presence of goblet cells heavily charged with acid mucins and the production of HCL necessary for digestion and absorption of food in both species .
d-The presence of three pairs of incisors on the upper jaw and two pairs on the lower jaw in M. nivalis is an adaptation for flesh – eating animals . e-The absence of premolars in M. nivalis and the presence of four paired molars located on the anterior extremity of the ventral part of the skull, leaving a gap in its postero – ventral part are obviously noticed , this gap may play a role in the process of swallowing of large preys .
