Abstract The aim of the present investigation was to study the effect of the treated sewage on the quality of water and phytoplankton population of Lake Manzala and the use of algae as biological indicators of water pollution. The Lake Manzala, is situated at the northern part of the Nile Delta. Its area reaches about213,000 feddans. At El-Inania village, a plant was constructed for the treatment of sewage. The treated sewage enters the lake via a narrow drain (brook). This drain extends for about 2 km from the plant to the west sector of the lake. |
