Abstract The main objective of this research is to study on the possibili ty integration of the local Agricultural knowledge system (LAKS) through the following sub--()bjectiV(:s: 1- Identifying the actual subsystems wruch constitute the LAKS concerning (objectives acruevement. work performance, availability of work physical potencies, and work constrainls). 2- Dctermini.ng differences between the subsystems constituting the RAKS regarding : objectives achievement, work perfonnance, availability of work physical potentials and faci lities . 3- Identifying the interviewers point of views about the subsystems constitu ting the LAKS regarding : comnnmi::alion level, commurucanon objectives, comnllmication constraints, improvement comnllll1ication proposals, coordination level, present and future relations among subsystems. 4- Identifying the present integration level of subsystems constituting the LAKS through the integrated activity achievement levels, and achievement level of roles related to the LAKS. nus study was conducted at KaIT El-Shiekh governoratc where the subsystems of LAKS was presented through the faculty of agriculture. the agricultural research stat ion., the agricultural extension system, and the agric ultural cooperatives. A personal questionnaire was developed and conducted to four categories of interviewers, they were; (I) TIle agricultw-al faculty staff (involving professors, associate professors and lectwers ) they were 52 interviewers representing 32.3 % of Ihe Slaff number tota led 161 .(2) Researchers in the agricultural research station, they represented (heads of research, sen.ior researchers and rese:lfchers ) they were 56 interviewers representing 36% of the staff number totaled 156. (3) The. extension specialists in Kafr EI-Shiekh, they wtre interviewers representing 6()O/o of the staff number totaled 90 .(4) TIle heads of agricultural cooperative council members at Kafr EI-Sruekh, they were S6 interviewers rep resenting 23 .7% of thc staff number totaled 236. A special questionnaire was developed for each category, the data were collected within fo ur months pcriod starting in May first and terminated at the end of august , 1997. Data were analyzed util izing frequency distribution, percentages arithmetic and weighted means, standard deviation, rank correlation coefficient. and (F) test. This s tudy comprises fo ur chapters. chapler I was draws upon an introduction and research problem, whereas chapter II establishes the thecretical framework and review of literature. In chapter 1Tl. the srudy demonstrates the research methodology, while chapler IV discusses flndings of the study which run as follows : First : The actyal subsystems constityting the LAKS. A-The actual agricultural system: 1- Finding revealed that more than one half of the interviewers from agricultW”al faculty staff (53 .9%) viewed that the faculty objectives 2 have been highly achieved, while another portion represented 19.2% considered this achievement as moderate / 2- Finding also showed that 44.2% of the interviewers from the Agric. faculty staff have performed their work activities in a high level, while others in the sample (34.6%) have performed it in a moderate manner. 3- Finding demonstrated that more than one half of the interviewers from Agric. staff faculty reported that work physical potentials and facilities are somewhat available, while other represented (288%) considered this availability in a high rate. B- The actual agricultural research system: 1- Findings showed the most of interviewers from Agric. faculty staff (76.8%) consider that ARS objectives have been achieved in a high rate, whereas only 16.1 % of them consider the rate of achievement as only moderate. 2- More than one half of researchers in the sample (58.9%) have performed their work activities in a high level rate, another portion (35.7) have performed it moderately. 3- More than one half of the organizational research members (55.4%) reported that work physical potential and facilities are highly available, while another percentage of them representing 37.5% considered that as somewhat available. c- The actual agricultural extension system: 1- Finding showed that (44.4%) of the extension subject matter specialists in sample indicated that agricultural extension objectives 3 have achieved in a high rate while others representing 31.5%have believed that the rate of achievement as only moderate. 2. More than one half of the extension subject matter specialists in the sample have perfonned their tasks in a high rate, while another percentage in the sample represents 35.2% consider that their perfonnance rate as moderate. 3· Most of the extension subject matter specialists in the sample 63% reponed that the work physical potentials and facilities are not available, while only other 18.5% in the sample considered that it is somewhat available . D· The actual system of agricultural production : I· Finding showed that 53.6% of the agricultural cooperative counsel member heads in the sample considered that the objectives of agricultural cooperative objectives have realized moderately. while another ponion in the sample represent 32.2% believe that this objectives are realized in a high rate . 2· More than one half of the agricultural cooperaiive counsel member heads in the sample have perfonned their work activities in a high rate, while another 32.2%, in the sample have perfonned this activities moderately . 3· 44.6% of the agricultural cooperatives counsel member heads indicated that the work physical potentials and faci lities are available in a high rate, while another 26.8% of them in the sample considered that it is moderately available. 4 E- There are significant differences found between subsystems under study regarding : Objectives achievements perfonnance of work activities-availabilily of physical potentials and fac ilities. Second : Communication and cOOl’dina tion levels among the sub-systems A- Finding showed that a high communication rate has existed between the research and the educational systems the research and extension systems and the extension and the production systems, Vlhile this communication rate was moderate between the educational and the extension systems and research and production systems, but this rate \\laS in a low rate between both the educational and the production systems . B- Coordination level : Findings demonstrated that a high coordination rate have existed between the research and the extension systems, and the extension and the production systems, while it \\laS moderate between the educational and the research systems, alld the research alld the extension systems, but this rate was low between the educational and the extension systems, and the educational and the production systems. 5 Third: Interviewer’s perception levels of each sub-systems regarding other system objectives that consisting the (LAKS): Finding indicated that perception of the majority of the agricultural faculty staff in the sample was high regarding the research and the production systems objectives and moderate concerning extension systems objectives whereas that perception of most of the interviewed researchers in the agricultural research station was high regarding the educational and the extension and the production objectives, while perception the majority of the extension subject matter specialists was high regarding the research and the production systems objectives and moderate concerning the educational system objectives, but interviewers from the agricultural cooperatives counsel members heads perception was high regarding extension system objectives, and low about both the educational and the research system objectives. Fourth : Integrated activities performance level among sub-systems consisting the (LAKS) . A- Finding showed that the educational system has provided the base for extension workers in a moderate level, and for researcher and the activate of research method in a high rate, and for improving the educational contents that the needs of the agricultural sector in a moderate level. B- Finding indicated that the research system has provided the base for the continuous awareness of research results, as well as activating the agricultural educational process in a moderate level, and providing the extension system with research results through ideas new a 6 approaches, and provided the agricultural sector with technical agricultural services in a high level. C- Finding demonstrated that the extension system has provided the educational system with the production system problems in a low level, conveying agricultural problems to the research system in a moderate level, implementing and diffusing of agricultural knowledge for the benefit of the production system in a high rate . D- Finding also proved that production system lias supponed the agricultural research and the educational system activi ties in a low rate, while the contribution of agricultural cooperatives in supporting the extension work was in a high rate . |
