Abstract

The present study was designed to clarify the appearance of cytokeratin 10, which is an important marker of epithelial stratification and keratinization, during the development and morphogenesis of filiform papillae in albino rats tongue and the epithelial cell layers of the ventral surface using the avidin biotin peroxidase complex. Immunohistochemical study gave negative results at the dorsal and ventral surfaces of the tongue for CK10 in both group (A), 15 days IUL and group (B), 17 days IUL. The positive immunoreactivity for CK10 began to appear at group (C), 19 days IUL, as brown deposits in the spinous and granular cell layers at the anterior compartment of the filiform papilla and those layers of the ventral epithelium. In addition, group (D), 21 days ( delivery day), the results obtained were similar to the pervious group in the distribution of the positive immunoreactive cells for CK10 in the spinous and granular cell layers at the anterior compartment of the filiform papillae. At the ventral epithelium the positive brown immunosignals for CK10 increased in the spinous and granular cell layers. In this work , group (E), 15 days post delivery, showed the extension of the brown reaction for CK10 in the spinous and granular cell layers at the anterior compartment of the filiform papillae and the posterior compartment showed negative reaction. The ventral epithelium revealed positive immunoreactivity in the spinous and granular cell layers Furthermore, in group (F), 35 days post delivery, the CK10 distribution showed positive immunoreactions in the spinous and granular cell layers at the anterior compartments of the filliform papillae with a mild reaction at the posterior compartments. Also the ventral tongue epithelium showed widely distributed brown immunoreactions for CK10 in its spinous and granular cell layers.
