Abstract The aim of the present work,is to study the corrosion and corrosion inhibition of Zinc in hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solutions, and this study is due to the importance of Zinc, inhibition of its corrosion by using organic inhibitors such as 4antipyrine derivatives. This work is carried out by using two methods:chemical method (weightloss method) and electrochemical method (galvanostatic polarization method);this enable us to calculate the percentage inhibition of these derivatives and compare between them. Also study the effect of constant concentration from: (i)potassium iodide, thiosycanate, bromide on the inhibition percentage in acidic medium,(ii) barioum chloride, calcium, strentium, magnesium on the inhibition percentage in alkaline medium. The effect of temperature was studied by these two methods;this enable us to calculate activation energy, other parameters and type of adsorption on Zinc surface(physical or chemical). The electrochemical method enables us to determine the mechanism of the inhibition process(cathodic or anodic). |
