Abstract

In the study we use modified N­(3­propyl)­o­phenylenediamine, N­(1­carboxy­2­hydroxy)benzylidene propylamine, N­(1­carboxy­6­hydroxy)benzylidene propylamine, and N­[1­carboxy­2­hydroxy­3­(2`­carboxyphenylazo)]benzylidene propylamine silica gel ion exchanger for the separation and preconcentration of some trace metal ions as Cd(II), Co(II), Cr(III), Cu(II), Fe(III), Mn(II), Ni(II), Pb(II), Zn(II) and uranyl ion in environmental samples. After preconcentration of these metal ions on modified silica gel ion exchangers, the cations under investigation were determined using AAS and spectrophotometry (in case of uranyl ion). Some factors affecting the recovery percentage and distribution coefficient namely, mass of modified silica gel ion exchanger, pH, stirring time and concentration of both eluted and interfering ions were studied. In the present work, the modified silica gel ion exchanger was used for analyses of trace elements in environmental samples
