Abstract

This study was aimed to electromyographic analysis of the effectiveness of splint therapy on internally deranged TMJ. The objective was two fold: first, to record changes in the EMG activity of lateral pterygoid and temporalis muscles during maximum clenching and maximum opening before and after wearing of the anterior repositioning splint. Second, to examine whether or not there was any significance to the pattern of splint usage. from this study we might conclude that 1.?The ARPS is an effective nonsurgical treatment modality for the patients with reducible disk displacement. 2.?The 24hour basis of splint wearing was found more superior than 12hour basis of wearing 3.?The presence or absence of TMJ internal derangement does not affect the pattern of temporalis, inferior pterygoid, and superior pterygoid muscle activities. 4.?A TMJ internal derangement is the incentive of the electromyographic changes of the masticatory muscles as the reverse is untrue. 5.The EMG can not be perceived as a specific diagnostic modality for TMJ internal derangement.
