Abstract This work was carried to isolate A.hyDROPhila from infected patients in Mansoura University Hospitals (MUHs), to do typing of the isolated strains by biotyping, serotyping and antibiotyping and to detect the aerolysin (Aer gene) as a virulence factor by PCR. In the present work, the isolation rate of A.hyDROPhila from stool of diarrhoeic patients was 4.36% while no A.hyDROPhila was isolated from healthy control groups. The isolation rate of A.hyDROPhila from surgical wound infection was 0.1%, while no A.hyDROPhila was isolated from blood cultures or ascitic fluid cultures. As regard A.hyDROPhila as a nosocomial pathogen, A.hyDROPhila-associated diarrhoea represented 7.38% of nosocomial diarrhoea and 2.59% of community acquired diarrhoea. The majority of A.hyDROPhila-associated diarrhoea occurred among age less than 2 years and age ranged from 60-70 years. There was insignificant difference between males and females as regard A.hyDROPhila-associated gastroenteritis in MUHs. |
