Abstract

Aim of the work : To determine any changes in epidemiology , type, location, stage, resection rate, postoperative mortality rate or prognosis for patients with gastric cancer in the last 20 years in Gastroenterology Center. Patients & methods: This is a retrospective study included 367 patients with gastric carcinoma in the ,Gastroenterology Center (GEC) Mansoura University in the last 20 years in the period from 1/1/1983 to 31/12/2002. Results: The mean age in group (A) 48.96(R+(B12,while the mean age in group (B) was 52.6(R+(B11.6 years, the majority of patients was at six decade 21 patients , we noticed that antral carcinoma was in 53 patients(75.7%) in group (A) and in 136 patients (45.8%) in group (B) while the cancer cardia was in 2 patients (2.9%) in group(A) and significantly increased in group(B) to reach 63 patients (21.2%). Lower radical gastrectomy, radical subtotal gastrectomy total gastrectomy, partial esophagogastrectomy were different types of resection. The most prognostic factors were state of lymph nodes,, serosal infiltration and safety margin infiltration.Infection ,obstructed gastrojejunostomy ,postoperative bleeding were the most complication . Conclusion: cancer cardia become more prevalent, also the age of patient become more older in the last 10 yearsThe survival rate of gastric cancer in our work become more better than in the past.
