Abstract

The present study was conducted on: I- Sixteen patients with recently discovered CRF due to variable kidney disease under conservative treatment only (predialysis group) and seventeen patients on maintenance hemodialysis beside conservative therapy (hemodialysis group). Both group were selected randomly from inpatients of Nephrology and Internal Medicine Departments of Mansoura University Hospital. On clinical background, none of the uremic patients had endocrinal, pancreatic, liver or gastrointestinal diseases or other associated diseases that affect assessment of gut hormones. Conservative therapy included phosphate and protein-restricted diet, multivitamins, calcium supplements, non adrenergic blocker antihypertensives. No antiacids nor phosphate binder were allowed during the study. The hemodialysis group (10 males and 7 females) had mean age 45.3 5±6. 91 years. The predialysis group (9 males and 7 females) had mean age 41.3±4.7 years. II- Ten healthy controls (6 males and 4 females) were studied as a control group. They were matched in mean age 45±2.26 years and body mass index with uremic patients.
