Abstract

The thesis consists of three main chapters: Introduction (Literature survey), Results and Discussion and Experimental, in addition to 158 literature references, as well as English and Arabic summaries. Each one of the main chapters is divided into two parts: The first part is dealing with chemistry of pyrromellitic dianhydride and the second part is dealing with the chemistry of quinolinic anhydride. ?The aim of the thesis is to investigate at the utility of pyrromellitic dianhydride and quinolinic anhydride for the synthesize of a variety of new heterocyclic compounds of expected biological activity. ?In the first chapter, comprehensive and uptodate literature survey on the chemistry of both pyrromellitic dianhydride and quinolinic anhydride is reported. ?In part one of the second chapter, the reaction of pyrromellitic dianhydride with paminoazobenzene derivatives, aromatic and heterocyclic amine are reported. ?In part two of the second chapter, the reaction of quinolinic anhydride with active methylene compounds is reported. These reactions led to synthesis of variety of fused an spiro heterocyclic systems. ?In the experimental section, the general method for the preparation, physical and analytical data are described. ?The structures of newly synthesized compounds were determined by both elemental and spectral analysis
