Abstract
Dental arch space analysis is a critical factor in deciding extraction of teeth. A plenty of techniques have been described to determine the space availability for eruption and favourable alignment of permanent teeth . So, it is important to set up an analysis that a clinician would use. The present study was designed to investigate the reliability of two manual devices used for analysing the arch space viz.; Boley gauge and occiusal brass wire techniques . It was also a prime goal to test the producibility of a modified approach of brass wire in analysing such space. One hundred and sixty two casts were taken for Egyptian young adults . Their ages ranged from 18 to 25 years . The casts were divided into o groups ; the first was selected with well - aligned teeth while the other roup demonstrated Angle’s Class I malocclusion. On each cast , the mesio - distal diameter of each tooth was measured r-ting from the mesial of one first permanent molar to its antimere using asharpened Boley gauge. The latter instrument was also used to measure the dental arch space between the first permanent molars segmentally.
