Abstract OA is a common, disabling condition that affects an increasing percentage of the population. As the focus for OA treatment shifts away from drug therapy, we consider the effectiveness of PEMF, which is proven to stimulate cartilage growth on the cellular level. LLLT is one of the latest developments of the phototherapy. During the last 20 years laser therapy has received wide recognition in medical practice and has occupied a stable important position among the medical and physical factors used before. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of PEMF and LLLT in treatment of primary OA This study comprised 60 patients with primary knee OA .The patients were (15 males and 45 females). We classified our patients into three groups of matched age, sex, disease duration and BMI. Group1: These patients were treated by a course of PEMF therapy Group2: These patients were treated by course of LLLT Group3: These patients were treated by course of combined PEMF and LLLT The result of this study lead to conclusion that: Pulsed electromagnetic field therapy and Low level laser therapy in primary OA significantly improve clinical parameters. The use of combined PEMF and LLLT gives more significant results in the treatment of primary OA of the knee without side effects. |
