Abstract Objective: The purpose of the study is to evaluate the role of ultrasonic fetal rib length measurement as a predictor for gestational age and fetal macrosomia in pregnant diabetic women from 30-40weeks of gestational age. Study design: The study was done in Obestetric department at Mansoura University Hospital. Fetal rib length (RL),biparietal diameter(BPD) and femur length (FL)measurements were obtained from91cases of pregnant diabetic women,20 cases were non diabetics,51 cases of them showing controlled diabetic status while 20 of them showing uncontrolled diabetic status in a prospective cross-sectional study ranging from 30-40 weeks over a period of one year. Results: A strong positive correlation between fetal RL,gestational age (r=0.96),BPD(r=0.94)and FL(r=0.95) were found . Also a strong positive correlation between RL and fetal macrosomia (r=0.84)in pregnant diabetic women. Conclusions: RL measurement could be used as a good predictor for both gestational age and fetal macrosomia in pregnant diabetic women. |
