Abstract

1. ELISA assay is a highly sensitive test in detecting CSAbs, especially with the use of S. mansoni egg antigen. 2. ELISA is found to be highly sensitive test in detecting specific CICs, mainly SEA- specific CICs. 3. ELISA is proved to be highly specific test for all immunological parameters investigated in this work, mainly in detecting specific CICs, as it shown 100% specificity. 4. The presence of specific CICs indicates an active infection with schistosomiasis mansoni and so could be used as a more potent tool in accurate serodiagnosis of the disease. 5. SWAP-specific IgG CIC is significantly increased 8 weeks P. I. in S. mansoni infected mice, and then gradually decline. 6. SEA-Specific IgG CIC has a high peak at 8-12 weeks after 1ry S. mansoni murine infection, and then gradually increases. 7. The participation of worm antigens in the formation of ICs could be determined through unisexual infections. 8. In unisexual infections, the levels of ICs are lower that in bisexual infections, long time needed for their levels to become comparable to those reached in bisexual infections in 2 months. 9. Inbred male CBA/J mice with chronic (20-week) S. mansoni infection, demonstrate two distinct syndromes. MSS and HSS, which resemble INT and HS chronic human schistosomiasis. 10. Specific CICs seem to reflect the morbidity status of schistosomiasis mansoni in chronically infected mice.
