Abstract
The present work was undertaken to study the histological end histochemical changes in the gastric end intestinal mucosa at different periods after bilateral vagotomy. Thirty-two adult rabbits were used, half of them were subjected to bilateral abdominal truncal vagotomy end the other half were used as a control. The specimens were taken from the stomach, duodenum, ileum. colon end appendix two. Four, twelve end twenty weeks after the operation paraffin sections were prepared and stained by haematoxyl Alkaline end acid phosphates activity. Fresh unfixed specimens were cut on the freezing microtome end stained for scenic dehydrate- geneses end cholinesterase enzymes. 4) Two weeks after vagotomy the gastric mucosa was thin, gastric pits were short end wide and the gastric glends were smaller in size end fewer in number than the control. The surface epithelial cells were cubical with granular more acidophilic cytoplasm.
