Abstract Chronic venous insufficiency of the leg (LCVI) is a common disease; approximately 25% of the Western European population suffer from it. CVI of the leg is no minor disorder;because of its chronic character patients require long-term treatment, often in hospital or sanatorium, including surgical intervention. In the end symptoms often force them to retire prematurely, with severe personal and social restrictions. Objectives of the study is to determine the prevalence of LCVI in Mansoura (Dakahlia), the associated risk factors for LCVI occurrence and the impact of LCVI on the QoL of the affect patients. The study design and methods: Site The outpatient clinics of Mansoura University Hospitals Populatioll of stud v: All males and females aged 15 years and older who attend surgery outpatient clinics ofMUH. Method of stud): It is a hospital based combined descriptive and analytic study designed to determine: -1- Point prevalence of LCVI, its stages, socio-demographic characters, and its impact on QoL of the affected patients. 11- Association of the possible risk factors to LCVI for this purpose a control group of non-CVI persons were selected from the same outpatient clinic (their number equal to the number of LCVI cases) used for matching, comparison and determining the risk factors. All the patients, who were diagnosed by the vascular specialist as having CVI problems in the leg, during the period of the study and the control persons, were interviewed and their consents were obtained to be enrolled in this study.
