Abstract

This study comprised 25 patients, 20 males and 5 females with signs syrnptoms of spinal cord cavitary lesions. They were examined by and the results were analyzed, classified to reach the etiologic e and compared with the final diagnosis. ain X ray of the spines was done for all patients and for the skull in atients, CT brain was done for 10 patients 6 of them had post¬rast examination, pre- and post-contrast CT of the spine was done The spinal cord cavitary lesion were classified in our study into; 1¬genital, 2- post-traumatic, 3-neoplastic, 4- inflammatory and 5¬ipathic syringomyelia. They were further sub divided imto unicating and non-communicating 1 Magnetic Resonance Imaging provided a safe, simple, and ninvasive technique. The different MRI findings in the 25 patients uld be well delinated particularly when suitable parameters were used obtain both T 1- and T2-weighted images, Tl-weighted images were the most valuable for assessment of cord dcyst morphology.
