Abstract

Chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases affect more than 10% of the general population. Its incidence has more than doubled since 1970, and it is likely to become increasingly prevalent with the increasing longevity of the general population. (Reina - Rosenbaum et al., 1997). Peripheral nervous system alteration during chronic obstructive airway disease with respiratory insufficiency seems more frequent than usual neurological practice would suggest. (Gasnault et al., 1987). To the best of our knowledge no studies have investigated the effect of proper pulmonary rehabilitation program on peripheral neuropathy caused by COPD. So our study had been designed to evaluate the incidence and .distribution of peripheral neuropathy in a sector of patients with COPD. Further more the effect of pulmonary rehabilitation program on the pulmonary function and more importantly on the peripheral neuropathy.
