Abstract Injuries to the epiphyses and epiphyseal plates are common. They omprise about 15% of all injuries to the long bones during the period of rowth. Separation of distal femoral epiphysis accounts for less than 1 % of acture of the growing skeleton. High incidence of complications of distal femoral epiphyseal injuries in itrature pushed us to study the results of treatment of these injuries in practical way. Because ofrarity of these injuries, this thesis was carried in prospective d retrospective ways. Distal femoral epiphyseal injuries were classified by many authors. alter-Harris classification (1963) is common and easy to apply. Also it is ~ood indicator of mechanism and prognosis of injury. So it was used in this hesis. This study involved twenty five patients with lower femoral epiphyseal injuries, fifteen patients were studied in a prospective manner in period between Jan. 2000 to Feb. 2001, while ten patients were studied in a retrospective manner in the last 5 years. Treatment was conservative in nine patients and operative in sixteen patients. The period of follow up was at least 6 months. Conservative treatment was in form of closed reduction if needed and above knee plaster cast. Operative treatment was indicated in cases with failed or unstable closed reduction, compound injuries and displaced Salter-Harris type IV. Closed. |
