Abstract Patients with femoral shaft fractures usually present to hospital in agony. Effective analgesia is important during transport as the patient movement can aggravate the pain. In This study we compare the effectiveness of femoral nerve blockade at two needle insertion sites in patients with fractured shaft femur. The studied patients were allocated into two groups, 20 patients each , they received femoral nerve block using Khoo technique as described by Khoo and Brown(l983), at the level of the inguinal ligament 20mm lateral to femoral artery and at the level of the inguinal crease just lateral to the femoral artery .The patients receive fermoral nerve block using lidocaine 2 mg / Kg and bupivacaive 0.5 mg / Kg in a volume of 0.3 rnl / Kg. Heart rate ,mean blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and pam score was recorded before and every 10min. up to 60min. after fermoral nerve block. Also the onset, duration, and quality of sensory blckade was recorded. The results of this study revealed that there was no significant difference between the two sites. |
