Abstract

The present work included 38 patients, 20 of them had P-TM and 18 f them suffer from SAA. They were transplanted in the BMT center of asser Institute for Research and Therapy in the period between May /1997 and August 2000. Allofthemwere previously transfused either with whole blood alone or with platelet transfusions. They were] 0 males and] 0 females in the B¬™ group and ] 1 males and 7 females in the SAA group. Their age ranged from 1.2 to 13 years in p- TM group and 3 to 15 in SAA group. All the patients were diagnosed according to the routine clinical examination and laboratory investigations. A written official consent was taken from every patient’s parents prior to admission. Thirty-seven patients received stem cells from the peripheral blood (PBSCs) only, two patients received bone marrow stem cells, and one patient received both types of stem cells. During the period of admission the patients were observed in a laminar airflow rooms with I-TEPA filters for: time ofengraftment of both WBCs and platelets, occurrence of GVHD, graft failure, and possible morbidity and mortality.
