Abstract Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) is a potent widely used broad spectrum ! antineoplastic agent, unfortunately, its clinical utility is limited by the incidence of cardiomyopathy. In an attempt to detect the early doxorubicin cardiotoxicity, this study was carried out at Clinical Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department, Mansoura University Hospital. This study aimed at evaluation of early doxorubicin cardiotoxicity using gated blood pool studies and echocardiography and comparing these two methods with each others and with clinical and ECG recording, with emphasis on diastolic parameters changes and parametric images. The study included 121 patients who completed the recommended study protocol and hence these data were subjected to statistical analysis. The patients were categorized into five groups, Control, Radiotherapy, Adriamycin alone, Adriamycin plus Bleomycin and Adriamycin plus Radiotherapy groups. The aim of this categorization is to define the cardiotoxicity of Adriamycin and the influence of additional effect of other drugs or radiotherapy. |
