Abstract Aiming at assessment of renal function and recoverability after relief of obstruction in children, eighty patients (102 kidneys) were studied before and after operative correction. The obstructing causes were unilateral pelviureteral junction in 21 cases, posterior urethral valve in 20 cases, primary obstructive megaureter in 11 cases, 10 cases due to stone disease, 10 cases due to obstructing masses and intravesical ureterocele bearing double moeity in 8 cases. The ages of the patients ranged from neoborn (few days) to 13 years old. The patients were followed up for a mean duration of 2 years and 7 months to evaluate the renal recoverability after relief of obstruction. All patients were examined initially by combination was Suggested and the patients were classified into the previOuSly mentioned 6 groups. The patients with VUR and/or urinary tract infection were excluded. Preoperatively all patients were examined with US, IVU and diuretic renographY. In addition, patients with posterior urethral valve, primary obstructing megaureter and intravesical ureterocele were subjected to MCUG. CT examination was performed for those patient had obstructing masses. |
