Abstract

Low back pain acquired in the industrial setting has become a large. problem in terms of both health care and financial cost Low back pain is the most common musculoskeletal problem affecting the working population (Trombly, 1995). Back pain account for most workers compensation Board c1aims and injured workers ( Teasel & Harth , 1996), In most cases of back pain there is an overlapping of pathologic states giving rise to symptoms. Mechanical factors alone may account for 80% of patients with industrial LBP (Scheer et, 1997 ). The differential diagnosis include back strain, disc herniation, degenerative changes in intervertebral disc, facet syndrome and segmental instability, Occupations of heavy work that required lifting and bending were associated with problems involving the lumbar disc and lor muscular pathology ( muscle tension, muscle spasm, muscle strain, muscle sprain , muscle deficiency and trigger point in muscle) (Boos & Kissling, 1999) ,Psychosocial factors may predispose individual toward chronic pain disability. Among psychosocial factors, job satisfaction has been identified as one of the potentially most significant predictors of back pain and disability ( Williams et al ” 1998) . It is well recognize that chronic LBP patients are only a small minority among those workers who report back pain, but are responsible for a majority of the costs of industrial back injury claims. Therefore, if we could redirect our resources and attention to the aggressive treatment of the acute back pain patient, with a view to preventing chronicity, we would able to reduce the incidence of chronicity and the cost of industrial claims from LBP ( Ryan et al ” 1995).
