Abstract This study was conducted on 46 elderly diabetic patients, 25 :rnales and 21 females. Their main age was 67.2 years, they were selected as follow:- *15 elderly diabetics with nonnoalbuminuria. *16 elderly diabetics with microalbuminuria. *15 elderly diabetics with overt nephropathy. A control group of 16 healthy elderly of matched age and sex were also included in this study. All patients and control subjects were submitted to clinical assessment including thorough history taking and full clinical examination, general and local examination. Then they were sumbitted to many laboratory investigations as follow:- Fasting mid¬stream urine samples were examined carefully for proteinuria by Combur III test (test of macroalbuminuria) then by micral II test (test of rnicroalbuminuria) if the Combur test was negative. Then a fasting blood samples were taken for serum creatinine, Na+, K+, SGOT, SGPT, serum albumin, lipid profile, fasting blood suger, also for serum insulin, glucagon, and IGF-I. Then a glucose load (75 gm dextrose) was taken and after two hours a blood samples were drown for PPBS and serum C-peptide. The results of our study were as follow:- There was a highly significant increase in MBP in all patients versus control group. Page {187} |
