Abstract
This study included 33 patients with histologically proven cervical carcinoma presented to clinical oncology and Nuclear Medicine Department , Mansoura University Hospital , during the period from 1994 to 1998 inclusive , such patients had been subjected to full investigation , different treatment modalities and regular follow up for 3 - 47 months period with a mean follow up 27.9 months. The tumour marker carcinoembrynlc antigen is still the most predictive one in cervical carcinoma . Several factors were responsible for treatment failure, these include large or massive central tumour size, low haemoglobin level, tumour burden scoring system than more than 4 , discontinuation of treatment by the patients and impairment of the lmrnue system in the form of decreased activity of natural killer cell and cytotoxic T lymohocytes . Thirty three patients were treated by external radiotherapy and intracavitary brachytherapy using Amersham manual after loading caesium system with the addision of infusion chemotherapy concomitant with external irradiation in locally advanced stage only , with Page No. 164
